What are subliminal messages and reprogramming?

These are messages that bypass the conscious mind, instead working directly on the subconscious mind and effecting change. Linked to the same idea as hypnosis, subliminal messages can be used as a powerful tool because the conscious mind does not hear the messages and cannot negate them before they sink into the deeper (and more accepting) parts of the mind. It is like sneaking those powerful, good messages in through the backdoor when the bouncer isn’t looking!

Studies in subliminal messaging were conducted by market researcher, James Vicary, in 1957. He flashed invisible messages onto the screen of a theatre during a film to see what effect it would have on popcorn and coke sales. The popcorn sales, it is claimed, increased by a whopping 57.8% and the coke sales increased by almost 20%.

When subliminal messages are given in an audio form, the actual affirmations are masked by other sounds. Typically sounds such as white noise or running water are used as these frequencies are very good at masking.
